SPONSORSHIPS & DONATIONS
The TVS Educational Society welcome sponsors to support
the following programs.
TVS Academy, Hosur,
Tamil Nadu
TVS Academy, Tumkur,
Karnataka
Dipashikha TVS Academy Matriculation School, Tiruvannamalai,
Tamil Nadu
T.S. Srinivasan Center
for Vocational and Advanced Training (CVAT),
Vanagaram, Tamil Nadu
T.S. Srinivasan Center
for Rural Training (CRT), Hosur, Tamil Nadu
I. TVS Academy Schools
The schools offer excellent educational programs that are subsidized by some sponsors.
Despite this, 15-20 percent of the school students who are from economically weaker
sections find it difficult to meet the expenses for schooling. Such students need to be
further supported for the entire duration of their schooling program, i.e., ten years.
This support would cover the costs of uniform, books and school fees.
Financial support required for each student is Rs.15,000/- per
annum
II. The T.S.Srinivasan Center for Vocational and Advanced Training, Vanagaram, Tamil
Nadu.
CVAT has 200 students. About 40% of these students belong to low socio-economic sections
of society, like coolies, watchmen, maidservants, mechanics, taxi drivers and vegetable
vendors. Their monthly income, consisting mostly of daily wages, is between
Rs.1000-Rs.3500. These students require support for the entire duration of their
educational program, which is three years. The support will cover the cost of uniforms,
fees, transportation and one meal a day.
Financial support required for each student is Rs.25,000/- per
annum.
III. The T. S. Srinivasan Center for Rural Training, Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
1) As seen in the profile CRT provides training to young adults who belong to families of
small and marginal farmers. These students need support for the entire program, which is
one and a half years. The support will cover the student's fees and living costs.
Financial support required for each student is Rs.20,000/- per
annum for1 ½ years
2) The Center has also created a network of about 50 farmers in the area around Hosur, and
25 others in the villages of Padaiveedu and Tirukurungudi in order to initiate them in to
the practices of organic farming, and helping them change from high-cost
chemical-intensive unsustainable agriculture to low-cost, more sustainable organic
farming. This process of converting farms is initially expensive for the farmers, as the
soil is dead and hardened due to heavy use of chemicals. The soil takes time to regenerate
and become active for providing better yield. This initial period is difficult especially
for the small and marginal farmers and such farmers may need support for 2 years.
Financial support required for each farmer is Rs.25,000/- per
year for 2 years.
IV. Village Schools
The society has now expanded its activities to adopt local Panchayat schools (rural
government schools) to improve the quality of those educational programs. TVSES has
selected Panchayat schools from 2 Blocks (a Block is a developmental division of a
district) located near the existing TVS Academy schools. The first Block is the Hosur
Block, in Dharmapuri district, Tamil Nadu and the second is the Hirehalli Mandal Panchayat
Block in Tumkur District in Karanataka. These schools lack infrastructure of all kinds -
classrooms, toilets, drinking water, furniture, curricular materials and trained teachers.
Initially 2 schools in the Block will be identified for intensive work for 2 years, for
teachers and learners. These schools in turn, are expected to adopt 2 schools each for 2
years. This process will continue for 8 years till 50% of the total approximately 90
primary schools in each district are covered. The program is due to begin in June 2002. We
hope that these village schools after 2 years of intensive training will serve as nodal
institutions and they in turn will adopt 2 more schools, thus creating a multiplier effect
of quality educational programs.
The adoption program will include 2 short term teacher training programs every year in one
of the TVS Academy schools located near the Panchayat school. This program will introduce
teachers to a variety of teaching strategies and methods. It will also assist teachers to
develop their own teaching and learning materials obtaining from their traditions.
Visiting pedagogical experts will offer support services for the program on a weekly
basis.
Contributions for this program will be a minimum amount of Rs.
50,000/- The contributions to this program will help create an endowment for the village
development program which will be used for teacher training, building infrastructure,
constructing toilets, class rooms, drinking water facilities and developing teaching
learning materials.
