PROFILES OF THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS MANAGED BY THE TVS EDUCATIONAL SOCIETY

* 1. The TVS Academy, Hosur

  Hosur

T
he school was begun with the intent to provide a progressive, community based educational program, in an underdeveloped region where quality educational programs were unavailable to most children. The curriculum is specially designed to meet the cognitive, emotional and cultural needs of the students. It stresses the need for individual attention so that the educational process engages the student's interests, and learning proceeds according to the individual's ability and needs. A team of dedicated teachers evaluates the curriculum regularly and modifies it to suit the requirements of the students. Teachers have also been actively involved in creating textual materials in a variety of subjects bringing in the local culture through familiar settings, contexts and events. The program aims at developing the children's holistic understanding of the world beginning with the community in which they live. The entire program is designed to help students develop good academic skills and become well-integrated human beings.

 * 2. The TVS Academy, Tumkur

   Tumkur

The school is situated in a small town in Karnataka. The school aims to help its students develop into mature, intelligent and sensitive human beings. Students are encouraged to make learning meaningful by exploring issues that affect them and their community. The students develop benchmarks of excellence, based on their skills, interest and abilities.

The curriculum stresses that the students must respond to environmental and community concerns in whatever way they can within their sphere of life. For example, students interact regularly with a community-based environmental group to learn about the flora and fauna in the surrounding forests, and to participate in the dissemination of environmental awareness programs to the community. These interactions have helped students to develop fresh insights and perceptions, and to act with greater awareness and responsibility with regard to the earth and all forms of life.
