"INTEGRATED ORGANIC FARMING"
Our first book is on organic farming. This is a hand book for organic farmers in Tamil Nadu which will serve as a ready reckoner to the farmers in the field. It is titled "Integrated Organic Farming" and is unique in that there is no book in India that deals with this subject in a comprehensive manner either in English or in any of the indigenous languages. The Society has pooled together the knowledge of many experts and practitioners in the field. The book presents a persuasive case for traditional organic farming as a holistic, eco-friendly process in contrast to chemical intensive farming that is held as a harmful, toxic process detrimentally affecting our environment, food and health. It supports this thesis convincingly by presenting case studies of successful organic farmers in India and other advanced countries highlighting the harmony of these farming processes with the natural cycles. |
"SOUTH INDIA 2000 YEARS AGO -- THE SANGAM
AGE"
The second publication is a history book for children entitled "South India -- 2000 years ago, The Sangam Age". It introduces children to a rich and unique civilisation that flourished in South India at the beginning of the first millenium. The book presents the literature, art, lifestyles and various events of the time through the perspectives and sensibilities of a child. It is intended primarily for middle school students. The book is profusely illustrated and provides a realistic representation of the people and places of those times. The publication includes a teachers/parents guide and worksheets for children and suggestions for projects and field visits.

ACTION RESEARCH DOCUMENTATIONS
For over a decade, the Society has been committed to improving the quality of educational programs offered in its institutions by empowering teachers to become effective facilitators of learning through undetaking action research. Action research is viewed as pivotal to the development of effective facilitation of learning.
Action research is viewed here as a process of testing claims and assumptions through a continual cycle of reflection and practice in the classroom.
A systematic and detailed process of inquiry and exploration through action research has enabled teachers to understand their underlying assumptions and orientations in their pedagogical vision and practices, in terms of - learning, learners, teaching, teachers, and the goals and aims of education.
Teachers have completed more than 30 research documentations. The main features of the research undertaken so far has largely been
Selecting and testing teaching-learning strategies in different content areas and
modifying them to suit the context and needs of the students.
Reviewing and designing (developing and adapting) curricular materials
appropriate
to the cultural and developmental needs of the students in
Language, Mathematics, Environmental Science and Social Studies.
These Research documentations have been published in the Journal "Teachers
Talk"
